European cities do away with traffic signs

Perhaps my cycling friends who decline to push for bike lanes in South Florida are onto something -- at least, part of a movement for good or ill. Der Spiegel, in Germany, reports that some cities and regions in Europe are deregulating their traffic. A key passage:
One of the insights of traffic psychology: Drivers will force the accelerator down ruthlessly only in situations where everything has been fully regulated. Where the situation is unclear, they're forced to drive more carefully and cautiously...
