We are now in the prime riding season for South Florida, and Miami-Dade is about to dedicate two new off-road paths -- the Kitty Roedel Bicycle Path, between NW 87th Avenue and NW 107th Avenue, and phase two of the South Dade Trail, the multi-use path alongside the Busway.
The Miami-Dade Expressway Authority built the Roedel path, and will celebrate its opening on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 10 a.m. They're inviting us all to bring our bikes and try it out. Head for the Sports Authority parking lot at 10688 NW 12th St. to find the goings-on.
The South Dade Trail is the work of Miami-Dade Transit, which will throw a party on Friday, Dec. 14, also at 10 a.m., at the south end of the Busway on SW 344th Street, just off U.S. 1 in Florida City. I'm told there will be a band and maybe something refreshing to taste.
