Why we need more bike-riding: Obesity

Americans are getting fatter. Over a period of 20 years, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we've gone from a nation where overweight was rare to where in 21 states, as much as one-quarter of the population is obese. It was chilling to me to watch the spread of obesity on this animated map. What's it have to do with biking? Well, for starters, instead of driving to the mall we can get onto a bike and burn off calories along the way.

Florida doesn't look so good on the map, but at least it is one of 28 states with its own obesity-prevention program.

Nice Find...This is a matter we try to cover as extensively as possible. The health risks induced by autocentric lifestyles cannot even begin to be quantified...

I don't know about biking to the stores. I've found it's kind of hard to haul home the 10 gallon jug of mayo, bag 48 count hotdogs, and 2 cases of soda from Costco. I'm sticking to my hummer. Besides, what if a giant inflatable snowman is on sale? Pass it up? Crazy talk.
